Fight Parkinson’s Community Learning Hub hosts free online, on-demand courses for the Parkinson’s community. 

The courses have been designed so people can learn in their own time and at their own pace, pausing and continuing as suits them.

Offering a free online education program means anyone can access the information they need, regardless of their personal circumstances.

Course | Understanding Parkinson’s: An introduction

What is Parkinson’s? What causes Parkinson’s symptoms? How do Parkinson’s symptoms impact on daily living? If you’re a family member or friend of a person living with Parkinson’s, this course is designed to answer common questions about living with Parkinson’s and supporting someone with Parkinson’s.

No one needs to face Parkinson’s alone. Use this online hub to arm yourself with the information, services and supports available in the community to take control and live well with Parkinson’s.

Course | Exercise and Parkinson’s

Exercise benefits all people with Parkinson’s, regardless of how long you have been living with the condition. While everybody’s exercise needs and preferences are different, this course shares exercise recommendations for people with Parkinson’s and tips for building an effective and enjoyable exercise routine.

Course | Falls prevention and Parkinson’s

People living with Parkinson’s are at a higher risk of falls but learning how to identify risk factors and fall hazards can help you reduce your falls risk. This course explores the relationship between Parkinson’s and falls, measures that can help prevent falls and strategies for managing unavoidable falls.

Course | The NDIS and Parkinson’s: How to apply 

People living with Parkinson’s and Atypical Parkinson’s aged under 65 years may be eligible for government-subsidised support through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). This short course is designed for people living with Parkinson’s to better understand the NDIS – what it is, whether to apply, how to complete an application and where to find information and support.

Your carer journey is unique, but you are not alone. Seeking out information and support can help you and the person you care for to live well. This course shares practical tips for carers, including looking after your own well-being, strategies to support daily routines, practical supports, counselling supports and financial supports.

This course uses current and emerging research – as well as anecdotal accounts – to share insights, improve understanding and offer symptom management options for women living with Parkinson’s and for those caring for them.

This course explores aspects of the Parkinson’s journey, including navigating health and aged care systems. The course also shares practical information about your rights and building protections and supports. Some of the definitions and issues described in this course may also be useful in opening up conversations with members of your healthcare team.

Palliative care has many benefits for people who receive it, but there are some common misconceptions about palliative care. This course shines a light on palliative care and explores why it is relevant and beneficial for everyone living with Parkinson’s, no matter the stage of your Parkinson’s journey.
