Our Work

Every day, our multi-disciplinary health team provides expert information, education and support to people living with Parkinson’s, their families and healthcare professionals.

Fight Parkinson’s strives to improve the quality of life for people with Parkinson’s and Atypical Parkinson’s conditions across the state as guided by our Strategic Plan 2018-2022. Our work includes:

Health education

Fight Parkinson’s provides a variety of tailored education programs to help people living with Parkinson’s, carers and health professionals to better understand symptoms, treatment options and to improve self-management. Last year alone, we provided education to more than 2,500 people across Victoria, not including those that visited our online resources or learned via a support group.

Peer support

Fight Parkinson’s runs 68 Peer Support Groups across metropolitan, regional and rural Victoria. They provide an invaluable opportunity to learn more about living with Parkinson’s and to connect with like-minded people. Peer Support Groups are spaces for sharing information about local Parkinson’s resources and mutual support.

Information Service

Fight Parkinson’s provides the only condition-specific Information Service in Victoria. Staffed by our multi-disciplinary health team, we provide support to thousands of people living with Parkinson’s, carers, and professionals each year via our toll-free and confidential Information Line, email and in-person. Fight Parkinson’s Information Line runs Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm (except public holidays) and is partly funded by the State Government of Victoria.

Contact Fight Parkinson’s Information Line on 1800 644 189 or email info@fightparkinsons.org.au.

Research

Fight Parkinson’s supports and funds research programs that seek to improve quality of life outcomes for people living with Parkinson’s and advance the search for a cure.

Community events

Fight Parkinson’s relies heavily on the fundraising efforts and generous donations from our community. We also hold community events to raise awareness of Parkinson’s and to fund our education and support services. This includes our record-breaking A Walk in the Park, our major fundraising event held at Federation Square each year.
