Getting ready for your online session

We want to make sure you get the most out of your online session. Follow the steps below to help everything run smoothly and ensure you can connect without any issues.

Before the session

  • Use the join link provided in your registration confirmation email. This is the easiest and most reliable way to join your session.
  • Check your internet connection ahead of time to make sure it’s stable.
  • Run updates on your device when prompted. Whether you’re using a computer, laptop, tablet, or phone, your device should be using the latest operating system available.
  • Check the age of your device. If your computer or tablet is more than 10 years old, it may have trouble connecting or running video calls smoothly.

If you’re not confident with technology

If you’re unsure about your internet connection, operating system, or the age of your device, you can still join by phone.

  • Use the dial-in option included in your registration email to join the session using your mobile or landline phone.
  • This option is helpful if your device is older or your internet connection isn’t reliable.

Getting help locally

If you’d like a bit of extra support before your session, your local library may be able to help.
Many libraries offer free or low-cost digital literacy sessions, one-on-one IT support, and public computers with internet access. Library staff can help you:

  • Connect to Wi-Fi
  • Update your device
  • Learn how to use video conferencing tools like Microsoft Teams
  • Practice joining an online meeting before your session

Contact your local library to find out what technology support programs are available near you.
