Sharon’s Trivia Night Fundraiser: A dedication to dad

For the second year running, Fight Parkinson’s community member, Sharon, has hosted a four-hour-long Trivia Night Fundraiser in her own home—raising over $7,500!

Promoting the event through word of mouth, social media, and personal networks, Sharon said that the turnout was fantastic, with 80 guests in attendance, equating to 10 tables of 8.

“Returning teams brought new friends, and it was lovely to welcome new faces alongside our familiar ones,” said Sharon.

In addition to the multi-genre music-themed trivia, the evening also included a series of raffles, plus silent and live auctions to keep the energy and fun going all night.

“We received multiple donations and were fortunate to have approximately nine sponsors contribute prizes and support. Two live auctions included Phillip Island and Yarra Valley Accommodations, along with framed sports memorabilia. Their generosity made such a difference,” Sharon said, “I am so grateful for each and every person who contributed financially through gifts and prizes. It simply wouldn’t happen without their support.”

Sharon also said that watching her dad (Peter) live with Parkinson’s since his diagnosis in 2005 is what inspired the fundraiser, and what has shaped so much of who she is and who they are as a close family.

“Dad was front and centre and seeing him surrounded by so much love and support truly meant everything. He brings such joy to the room, and honestly, he’s the best reminder of why we do this.”

“I just want to say how incredibly grateful I am to everyone who has supported this event, the guests, the volunteers, the sponsors, and Fight Parkinson’s. Parkinson’s affects so many more families than people realise, and if our little trivia night can raise funds and spark even one meaningful conversation, then it’s all worthwhile.”

Over the past 2 years, Sharon’s trivia night fundraisers have raised nearly $14,000 for Fight Parkinson’s, and she is planning to host another one next year.

We are very thankful to Sharon for her continued support and efforts in fundraising for Fight Parkinson’s, and to everyone who attended the evening and gave so generously—thank you.
