John Eren
Sir Zelman Cowen Award
John Eren is recognised for his outstanding voluntary service and courageous advocacy for the Parkinson’s community. A former Victorian MP (2002–2022), John became a Fight Parkinson’s ambassador in 2020, publicly sharing his diagnosis to raise awareness and drive change. His efforts in the 27forParkinson’s campaign raised nearly $14,000 personally, with his team contributing $23,000, and helped secure a $150,000 Victorian Government donation. Nationally, his bipartisan advocacy has amplified the voices of people living with Parkinson’s. From grassroots events to high-level engagement, John’s leadership, compassion, and determination continue to inspire and unite the community.
Betty Suggett
Harold Waldron Carer’s Award
Betty has dedicated over two decades to supporting and advocating for people affected by Parkinson’s, alongside her late husband, Andrew Suggett OAM. Since joining the Warrnambool Parkinson’s Support Group in 2001, Betty’s unwavering support has been central to Andrew’s leadership and the group’s welcoming, inclusive environment. Together, they organised countless events, including more than a decade of regional A Walk in the Park events and the first regional Peer Support Group meeting in 2017. In 2024, Betty honoured Andrew’s legacy by supporting the Warrnambool walk, continuing her quiet, steadfast service to the community.
