Research call-out: Improving wellbeing in women with Parkinson’s through exercise

Researchers at La Trobe University want to understand the feasibility of a gym-based exercise program for women with Parkinson’s.

About the study

One of Fight Parkinson’s inaugural seed fund grant recipient projects is recruiting volunteers.

The project – Improving Wellbeing in Women with Lived Experience of Parkinson’s Disease Using Community-Based Gym Exercises – seeks participants for an eight-week program to be run in Box Hill, Victoria.

Existing research shows exercise can help improve Parkinson’s symptoms, but research has yet to explore which types and amounts of exercise are most effective for women.

Selected volunteers will participate in free, 1:1 training sessions over eight weeks, guided by exercise trainers and overseen by physio therapists.

Who can participate?

The research team is looking for:

  • Healthy women who have Parkinson’s
  • Aged between 18-70
  • Are available to participate over eight-weeks

What’s involved?

  • Medical screening with your usual medical practitioner
  • Pre and post program questionnaires
  • A 30-minute online interview with the project team
