Staying protected this cold and flu season

As we enter the colder months, it’s crucial to take precautions against seasonal illnesses.

This year, we’re reminding everyone about:

Getting your annual flu vaccine – This safe, effective shot provides the best defence against flu viruses circulating this season. Call your GP or pharmacy to get vaccinated ASAP.

Staying up-to-date on COVID-19 Boosters – If it’s been 6 months or more since your last COVID booster, speak with your health care provider about getting an updated dose for continued protection against variants.

RSV Vaccination for Older Adults (if eligible) – For our older community members, discuss getting the newly approved RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) vaccine with your doctor.

Influenza, COVID and RSV vaccines are safe and do not interact with Parkinson’s medications. Your Parkinson’s symptoms may become more noticeable for a day or so following a vaccine, however this is only temporary.

Should you contract COVID-19, people living with Parkinson’s may be eligible for subsidised anti-viral medication. The vaccines and anti-viral medications are safe to take when you have Parkinson’s and with medication used to treat Parkinson’s symptoms.
